Coimbatore : The city police have made elaborate security arrangements for New Year's Eve by beefing up the strength of the police force to guard vital junctions in the city, in an effort to avoid any untoward incident during New Year's Eve as well as on January 1.
Coimbatore : The city police have made elaborate security arrangements for New Year's Eve by beefing up the strength of the police force to guard vital junctions in the city, in an effort to avoid any untoward incident during New Year's Eve as well as on January 1.
While 22 special police teams will be engaged in the city to nab drunk drivers to check revelry on the night of December 31, fire service personnel will be on high alert to tackle any eventualities. The Commissioner of Police, Sumit Charan, assisted by the Deputy Commissioners will supervise the law and order situation in the city, during the New Year celebrations to ensure an incident-free start to the New Year.
While traffic movement will be stopped on flyovers in North Kovai, Avinashi Road and Nanjappa Road, about nine vital junctions including R S Puram, Park Gate Signal, Codissia and Racecourse will be brought under the security blanket for added security measures. Added to this, security will be provided to 62 churches and cathedrals, and 30 star hotels in the city, during the New Year celebrations, as part of the overall security measures in the city.
