Foresters received information from a shepherd who claimed to have seen the carcass of the female leopard 300 meters away from Jambukandi Reserve Forest. On inspection, it was found that the animal had sustained injuries.
Forest officials said that the big cat could have been hit by a speedy vehicle while trying to cross the Anaikatti Road.
The carcass was retrieved and sent for post-mortem. This is the first incident of Roadkill of leopard in the Anaikatti hills in a long time. Notably, a leopard was reportedly poisoned in 2017 by a cattle rearer.
