Coimbatore: Members of the Puthiya Tamilagam Party led by its President Krishnasamy petitioned at the District Collectorate today demanding the exclusion of Devendrakula Vellalar from the list of Scheduled Castes (SC).
The petitioners met the District Collector T N Hariharan and demanded that the State Government pass a government order excluding the community from the SC list. Addressing the media, Krishnasamy said, “We have been protesting for a long time demanding exclusion of our community from the SC list.
The State Government should consider our petition at the earliest and recommend to the Centre to exclude our community from the SC list. A government order should also be passed in this regard.”

Krishnasamy said that he had petitioned at 14 District Collectorates with regard to this, for the past 10 days. “The State Government is not affected by this because it will not face any financial crisis due to this,” he added. Krishnasamy hoped that the State Government would not push members of the community into continuous protests to be heard.
