Tirupur : The protest by Tirupur farmers against the installation of electric transmission towers in agricultural lands entered the second day. Farmers are also protesting in 16 other districts on the same demand. Over 100 farmers are taking part in the protests near Pallipalayam, Palladam.

Farmers from 16 districts have been protesting for two days against the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited move to install electric transmission towers through agricultural lands here.
Farmers said that though requested the governments to transmit electricity through electric lines along Highways, they fell on deaf ears. Farmers said that their livelihood will be affected. As second day, the farmers conveyed their protests through village art form Kummi.

Similar protests are conducted by farmers in Coimbatore. Today, as part of the protests, farmers brought agricultural equipment like tractors and JCB machines and hoisted black flags on it.
Suresh, Vice-president of Erumunai Youth Wing said, “The protests will continue and it would become more intense as each day pass by.”
