Coimbatore: Criticizing the DMK President M K Stalin for spending a lot of money on installing the statue of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, H Raja, BJP leader, said that the DMK leader could have donated the money for the relief work in the Cyclone Gaja-affected districts.

Briefing the media, H Raja opined that M K Stalin lacked leadership qualities and calling Prime Minister Modi as "sadist" was in poor taste. While alleging that the DMK was extending its support to radical forces in Tamil Nadu, H Raja stated that the VCK and MDMK were insulted during the unveiling ceremony of Kalaignar's statue just because they were not part of the DMK alliance.

While expressing his thanks to the Central government for allotting the AIIMS multi-specialty hospital at Thoppur near Madurai, H Raja felt that the Naxalites were trying to get a foothold in the jungles which was once dominated by the dacoit Veerappan. "The Tamil Nadu government should get the Centre’s help to eliminate Naxals from these pockets,” emphasised H Raja.

Lambasting the HR& CE department for the recent controversies in the idol swap case, H Raja said that the Department had lost its honor and integrity. He also had a heated exchange with the media regarding the Centre’s laxity in extending Cyclone Gaja relief. H Raja stressed that media personnel should not speak like advocates against PM Modi. Defending the Centre, H Raja said, “The State has not yet submitted its comprehensive and final report on the scale of destruction caused by Cyclone Gaja."

In an aside, he commented that the candidature of Rahul Gandhi for Prime Minister’s post had not been accepted by other leaders in their alliance, including Mamta Banerji, Chandrababu Naidu and Sitaram Yechury.
