Coimbatore : A group of wildlife enthusiasts rescued a rare variety of primate near elephant rejuvenation camp in Mettupalayam today. The animal which was handed over to forest officials was released into forests later.
Coimbatore : A group of wildlife enthusiasts rescued a rare variety of primate near elephant rejuvenation camp in Mettupalayam today. The animal which was handed over to forest officials was released into forests later.
A team of wildlife enthusiasts who were visiting the elephant rejuvenation camp near Vana Bhadrakaliamman temple in Thekkampatti found a caged Slender loris at the temple premises. A soothsayer was allegedly using the animal. The soothsayer allegedly lured people and sold talisman saying it has spells cast by the animal.
The wildlife enthusiasts rescued the animal from the soothsayer and handed it over to Mettupalayam forest officials. Forest officials later released the slender loris into the forests.
Slender loris are primates which are on the verge of extinction and it is included under the Schedule I list of the Forest department.
