Tirupur : The drastic drop in garlic prices at Kerala is affecting Udumalai farmers who cultivated the vegetable along Tirupur-Kerala border.

Several farmers at Maraiyur, Kandhalur along the Tirupur-Kerala border cultivated garlic this season targeting the Kerala market. Until last month, per kilo garlic was sold for Rs.100 in Kerala. Currently, the prices have drastically dropped and per kilo gains up to Rs.50. Farmers here fear that they wouldn’t be able to recover their investments due to low prices. The farmers have now stored their harvest hoping that the prices would resume soon in Kerala.
