Tirupur: Food safety officials seized a total of 255 kg gutka from three shops in Dharapuram.
Based on a tip-off that banned tobacco products were being sold, food safety officials in Tiruppur headed by the designated officer of the Food Safety Department, Dr. Tamil Selvan, conducted a search at the shops in Dharapuram.
During the search, officials seized banned tobacco products from a wholesale shop at N N Pettai Street, owned by Posaram. Subsequently, officials confiscated tobacco products from a shop owned by his brother Asaram and also from a shop owned by a person named Selvam, in the daily market.
During the raid, officials confiscated Rs.1.70 lakh gutka products. Officials sealed all three shops and have registered a case against the owner of all three shops.
