Schools in 4 Districts in Kashmir Valley to Reopen today

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday decided to reopen schools in four of the 10 districts of the violence-hit valley from today.

"In partial modification to the orders in regard to summer vacation, it has been decided that the schools in the districts of Baramulla, Bandipora, Budgam and Ganderbal as well as winter Zone of Jammu Division will reopen on July 21, 2016," an order issued by Commissioner-Secretary Education Department Shaleen Kabra reads.

The schools, which were closed for 17-day summer vacation from July 1, were scheduled to reopen on July 18.

However, the state government had extended the vacations by one week till July 25 in view of the ongoing turmoil in the valley.

The government order did not make any mention about reopening of schools in the remaining six districts including Srinagar.

'Restore Internet services in Jammu'

Meanwhile, as mobile Internet services remain suspended for the 12th consecutive day in Jammu and Kashmir, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Jammu (CCIJ) demanded immediate restoration of the service.

"The Internet services should be restored without any further delay, otherwise the chamber will be forced to take appropriate action," CCIJ President, Rakesh Gupta said after convening an meeting in view of the snapping of Internet services in Jammu.

He said the suspension of the Internet services has affected badly the business fraternity of the region.

The traders sent a memo through fax to Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu requesting an extension in the date for filing of VAT returns and extension in the date for depositing of VAT tax at least by three months.

Fearing law and order problem, the authorities had snapped mobile Internet services in Jammu region after the Killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in the Kashmir Valley on July 8.
