Amid ongoing diesel shortage issues, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association (TECA) has urged the State government and electricity authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industries and hospitals, citing operational difficulties.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association (TECA) has expressed serious concern over the hardships faced by industries and hospitals due to frequent power interruptions and the prevailing shortage of diesel required for operating captive generators.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), TECA President Santhosh stated that the ongoing international war situation involving Iran and the USA has severely affected the availability of diesel fuel, creating major challenges for industrial consumers in operating generators during power cuts and power tripping.
He pointed out that the situation poses a serious threat to the continuity and sustainability of industrial operations, particularly under the current economic conditions.
TECA also highlighted the difficulties faced by hospitals and healthcare institutions, which depend on uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply for emergency treatment and critical care services. Frequent power interruptions, coupled with fuel shortages, have reportedly created serious operational concerns in the healthcare sector.
In view of the crisis, the association has requested electricity utility authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industries and hospitals or at least significantly reduce the duration of power cuts and load shedding.
The association has further appealed for the temporary suspension of monthly preventive maintenance shutdown schedules until the fuel supply situation normalises. If such shutdowns become unavoidable, TECA urged authorities to carry out the maintenance work with minimal interruption and ensure quick restoration of power supply.
TECA has also called upon the Government and electricity utility authorities to take immediate and effective measures to safeguard industrial production, employment, healthcare services, and overall public welfare during the present crisis situation.
