District Collector Inspects Rs 12.28 Crore Indoor Sports Stadiums in Coimbatore

District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar and Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja inspected newly constructed indoor sports stadiums for badminton, kabaddi, volleyball and international standard swimming pools at VOC Park in Coimbatore Corporation's Central Zone, built at an estimated cost of Rs 12.28 crore.

Coimbatore: District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar and Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja today (06.07.2026) inspected newly constructed indoor sports stadiums and swimming pools in the Central Zone of Coimbatore Corporation, built at a cost of several crores to enhance sports facilities in the city.

The officials inspected the newly constructed indoor sports stadiums opposite Nehru Indoor Stadium in Ward No. 83 of the Central Zone, including badminton and kabaddi stadiums built at Rs 1.50 crore each, and a volleyball stadium constructed at Rs 2 crore. These sports facilities have been designed to provide excellent training amenities for youth and athletes.

The officials also reviewed the construction of an international standard swimming pool being built at Rs 4.34 crore and another swimming pool under construction at Rs 3.44 crore at VOC Park. These swimming pools are designed to international standards and will provide superior training facilities for swimmers.

During the inspection, the District Collector and Corporation Commissioner instructed officials to expedite the completion of construction work. These projects are expected to significantly improve sports facilities in Coimbatore city upon completion.

The Corporation Commissioner also inspected attendance registers of sanitation workers at the Sanitary Inspector's office on Devangapettai Road in Ward No. 70 of the Central Zone. Subsequently, he visited and reviewed the stormwater drain desilting work on Syrian Church Road.

Based on information received about garbage being dumped on roadsides in the Pullukadu area of Ward No. 86 in the South Zone, the Corporation Commissioner personally visited the location and instructed officials to install CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring and to create public awareness. He ordered concerned officials to impose fines on those dumping garbage on roadsides.

Additionally, he inspected the Corporation vehicle repair facility in the area and reviewed the desilting work of Sanganur Canal in Ward No. 45 of the West Zone.

During this inspection, Corporation Health Officer Dr Subash Gandhi, Assistant Commissioner Dakshinamurthy, Assistant Executive Engineer Saravanakumar (Public Works), Zonal Health Officer Andiyappan, Assistant Engineer Satheeshkumar, Sanitary Inspector Saravanakumar, and several other Corporation officials were present.
