Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja has ordered removal of unauthorized advertisement boards, flex banners, and posters, imposing fines and imprisonment as per law. A company in Pothanur was fined Rs 10,000 for illegal poster display near the railway station flyover area.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja has ordered strict action against unauthorized advertisement boards, flex banners, advertising cards, and posters displayed across areas under the corporation's jurisdiction. He announced that these advertisements will be removed and fines will be imposed on those responsible.

Unauthorized advertisement boards, flex banners, and advertising posters placed in public spaces, road medians, and electric poles causing obstruction to the public and vehicle drivers in the ward areas of five zones—East, West, North, South, and Central—falling under Coimbatore Corporation will be removed by the corporation.

According to the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act 1998 and Rules 2023, anyone wishing to advertise through advertisement boards, electronic screens, and advertising cards in the city must submit an application to the Corporation Commissioner 15 days in advance, pay the prescribed fee, and obtain permission.

Fines will be imposed on advertisements placed without permission and the associated advertising printing companies. As per Section 117 of the Tamil Nadu Local Bodies Act 1998, those who install advertisement boards can face three years imprisonment or a fine of Rs 20,000 or arrest, or both these penalties combined.

Those who install flex banners and advertising cards can face one year imprisonment or a fine up to Rs 5,000, or both these penalties combined, the Corporation Commissioner stated.

Furthermore, the Corporation Commissioner has ordered officials to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on the company that pasted advertising posters in the flyover area near Pothanur Railway Station in the South Zone, causing obstruction to vehicle drivers.

Corporation officials are conducting intensive monitoring operations in all zones. The Corporation Commissioner has appealed to the public and advertising companies to comply with legal regulations.
