List of Village Panchayats Proposed to Be Merged with Coimbatore Municipal Corporation

The list includes village panchayats such as Kurumugai, Perur, Panapatti, and Vellalore proposed for merger with Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. Additional rural local bodies like Narasingapuram and Kariyampalayam are also included in the proposal.




Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Municipal Corporation is set to expand its boundaries with the proposed merger of several village panchayats. These proposals are aimed at improving urban infrastructure and governance by including adjacent rural areas. As per the detailed proposal, the merger will bring in the following areas into the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation:

1. Kurumugai - Population: 25,691, Area: 11.65 sq.km, Distance from ULBs: 4.82 km.

2. Perur - Population: 8,004, Area: 6.40 sq.km, Distance: 2.40 km.

3. Panapatti - Population: 11,910, Area: 5.61 sq.km, Distance: 2.00 km.

4. Vellalore - Population: 24,872, Area: 16.64 sq.km, Distance: 2.00 km.

These municipalities will contribute a total area of 40.30 sq.km and a population of 70,747 to the existing boundaries of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. Additionally, several other rural local bodies (RLBs) will also be merged into the corporation:

- Narasingapuram - Population: 18,749, Area: 12.807 sq.km

- Kariyampalayam - Population: 14,787, Area: 13.110 sq.km

- Kuniamuthur - Population: 17,809, Area: 11.17 sq.km





After the merger, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation will have an expanded area of 438.54 sq.km, with a total population of 18,07,605. The merger aims to enhance the city's infrastructure and service delivery, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions.
