Coimbatore: A wild porcupine caused panic and disruption at the Angalakurichi Government Primary Health Center near Pollachi on Saturday morning. The unexpected visitor led to a three-hour operation by forest officials to capture and safely relocate the animal.

The incident occurred when sanitation workers from the Angalakurichi Panchayat were carrying out their routine cleaning of the plants in the health center premises. Suddenly, they spotted a porcupine in the area, causing alarm among the workers, patients, and visitors present at the facility.



Eyewitnesses reported that people ran helter-skelter upon seeing the porcupine, fearing for their safety. The health center staff immediately alerted the forest department about the situation. A team of forest officials promptly arrived at the scene and began efforts to capture the porcupine.

During the capture attempt, the porcupine managed to escape into the nearby residential area, complicating the operation. The forest officials persisted in their efforts, and after a challenging three-hour struggle, they successfully captured the porcupine. Following the capture, the team safely released the animal into the dense forest area of Aliyar.

The incident drew significant attention from locals, with many gathering to witness the unusual event. The successful capture and relocation of the porcupine brought relief to the staff and patients of the Angalakurichi Government Primary Health Center, allowing normal operations to resume.
