Southern Railway extends Tirunelveli-Mettupalayam train service for Diwali

Southern Railway extends weekly train services from Tirunelveli to Mettupalayam and Chennai Egmore for Diwali. Extension aims to accommodate increased passenger traffic during the festive season.

Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has announced an extension of train services from Tirunelveli to Mettupalayam and Chennai Egmore in view of the upcoming Diwali festival. This decision, revealed in a press release on September 3, aims to cater to the increased passenger traffic during the festive season.

According to the announcement, the Tirunelveli-Mettupalayam Express will be extended until November 25, while the Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Express will continue its service until November 29. These extensions are expected to provide additional travel options for passengers planning to visit their hometowns or travel during the Diwali holidays.

The Southern Railway has also confirmed that advance bookings for these extended services have already commenced. Passengers are encouraged to make their reservations early to ensure availability, as the demand for tickets is expected to be high during this period.

This move by the Southern Railway is part of its efforts to enhance passenger convenience and manage the surge in travel demand typically associated with major festivals like Diwali. The extended services are likely to benefit a large number of people, especially those traveling between Tirunelveli, Mettupalayam, and Chennai.
