Coimbatore: In a significant move to empower rural citizens with legal knowledge, a Gram Sabha meeting in Jothampatti village, Madathukulam Union, Tiruppur district, incorporated a legal awareness session on the eve of Independence Day. The event, chaired by the Panchayat President, saw active participation from over 200 villagers.

Advocate Marimuthu, following the instructions of Vijayakumar, the President of the Madathukulam Taluk Legal Services Committee and a judge, conducted the awareness session. The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between the rural populace and their legal rights, ensuring that citizens are well-informed about the laws that protect them.

The session particularly emphasized laws pertaining to women and senior citizens. Marimuthu provided clear and concise explanations of various legal provisions, ensuring that the information was accessible to all attendees. This focus on vulnerable sections of society underscores the importance of targeted legal education in rural areas.

The integration of legal awareness into the Gram Sabha meeting represents a proactive approach to community education. By combining local governance discussions with legal knowledge dissemination, the event served dual purposes of civic engagement and legal empowerment.

The strong turnout of over 200 participants indicates a growing interest among rural residents in understanding their legal rights and responsibilities. Such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering a legally aware society, potentially leading to better utilization of legal services and increased access to justice in rural areas.

As India celebrates its Independence Day, events like these reflect the ongoing efforts to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level by ensuring that citizens are aware of their constitutional rights and legal protections.
