The deceased, identified as Sakthikumar, was a resident of Gengampalayam near Pollachi. He was married and had a son and a daughter. According to sources, Sakthikumar had lent money to three individuals: Rs 2.50 lakh to Ganesamoorthy from Samathur, Rs 1.80 lakh to Sadik Basha from Karuppampalayam, and Rs 8 lakh to Senthilnathan from Aval Chinnampalayam.

When Sakthikumar asked for the repayment of these loans, all three individuals reportedly refused to return the money.
