Probable New Integrated Terminal’s Renders Spotted for Coimbatore International Airport Expansion

Potential initial renders of Coimbatore International Airport's new integrated terminal have been released. The expansion project, designed by GP Mathur, aims to increase passenger capacity and introduce a dedicated cargo terminal.

Coimbatore: The Airports Authority of India has released potential initial renders of the upcoming new integrated terminal for Coimbatore International Airport. This release is part of the major expansion project that aims to significantly enhance the airport's capacity and facilities.

The new greenfield terminal, designed by renowned architect GP Mathur, is expected to handle a capacity of 15 million passengers annually (MPA) in its first phase. The design allows for further scalability in phase two of the project, ensuring the airport can meet future demands.

The renders which were seen on GPM’s Instagram page, primarily showcase the foreside terminal, which will house check-in counters and security facilities. This area is crucial for streamlining passenger flow and enhancing the overall airport experience.

A notable feature of the expansion project is the introduction of a dedicated cargo terminal at Coimbatore International Airport. This addition is expected to boost the region's logistics capabilities and support economic growth.

GP Mathur and his team were awarded the ₹800 crore engineering design and consultancy tender for the terminal project last year. The tender was initially released in 2022 and subsequently awarded, marking a significant step forward in the airport's development plans.

The new integrated terminal is poised to transform Coimbatore International Airport into a modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly facility. As the project progresses, it is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity and supporting the economic growth of Coimbatore and the surrounding regions.
