Amaravathi Dam Water Level Rises to 49.18 Feet; Thirumoorthy Dam Records 35.56 Feet

Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district reached 49.18 feet and Thirumoorthy Dam recorded 35.56 feet as of July 25. Water Resources Department officials reported continuous inflow has increased water levels in both major reservoirs serving irrigation and drinking water needs.

Coimbatore: Water levels in the major reservoirs of Tiruppur district, Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams, have risen due to continuous inflow. Water Resources Department officials released the water level details of both dams as of July 25.

Amaravathi Dam, with a maximum capacity of 90 feet, has seen its current water level rise to 49.18 feet owing to continuous water inflow from catchment areas. The dam is receiving an inflow of 40 cubic feet per second (cusecs). Simultaneously, 740 cusecs of water is being released from the dam, Water Resources Department officials informed.

Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, has a storage capacity of 60 feet. With continuous water inflow from its catchment areas, the water level stands at 35.56 feet as of July 25. Officials stated that Thirumoorthy Dam is receiving an inflow of 160 cusecs, while 21 cusecs is being released from the reservoir.

During the southwest monsoon season, rainfall in the Western Ghats mountain ranges is expected to increase water inflow to both these dams. Water released from both reservoirs is utilized for agriculture and drinking water requirements across the region.

The steady rise in water levels brings relief to farmers and residents dependent on these reservoirs. Officials continue to monitor the inflow and outflow patterns to ensure optimal water management for the upcoming cultivation season.
