Devotees Dance and Sing Kummi Songs at Edayarpalayam Amman Shrine

Devotees celebrated Aadi Thirukalyanam at Lakshmi Vinayagar Temple in Edayarpalayam, Coimbatore, by offering grains for Mulaipari and performing traditional Kummi dances with devotional songs.

Coimbatore: The Lakshmi Vinayagar Temple in Lakshmi Nagar, near Edayarpalayam, Coimbatore, witnessed a vibrant celebration on July 24 as devotees gathered to mark the Aadi Thirukalyanam festival. The highlight of the day was the Mulaipari offering ceremony, a traditional ritual associated with the festival.

Devotees actively participated in the celebration by purchasing and donating three different types of grains required for the Mulaipari offering to the temple. This gesture of devotion is an integral part of the Aadi Thirukalyanam festivities.

Following the grain offerings, the devotees gathered at the Amman shrine within the temple premises. In a display of fervent devotion and joy, they formed circles and performed the traditional Kummi dance. The air was filled with melodious devotional songs as the participants danced, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere of spiritual enthusiasm.

The Kummi dance, a folk dance form popular in Tamil Nadu, involves rhythmic clapping and circular movements. It is often performed during festivals and special occasions, especially in honor of feminine deities. The devotees' energetic performance of Kummi at the Edayarpalayam Amman shrine added a cultural richness to the religious celebration, showcasing the blend of tradition and devotion that characterizes many Tamil festivals.
