Subway worth Rs. 7 crores in Ukkadam; 1245 roadworks valued at Rs. 98.95 crore for the year 2024-25: Coimbatore Corpn

Coimbatore Municipal Corporation plans to construct a tunnel path worth Rs. 7 crores extending 100 meters in Ukkadam during festive peak visits, with other projects totaling Rs. 98.95 crores planned for 2024-25.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Municipal Corporation is set to embark on a significant infrastructure development, including the construction of a Rs. 7 crore tunnel path in Ukkadam. This development is aimed at managing the heavy influx of over 50,000 people during major festivals. The 100-meter-long tunnel is part of a broader initiative to enhance city infrastructure and alleviate traffic congestion.

Additionally, Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran revealed plans for 1245 roadworks valued at Rs. 98.95 crore for the year 2024-25, with 60% of the work already completed. The focus on enhancing public amenities does not stop there; discussions are underway to increase vehicle parking facilities to resolve the persistent issues of roadside vehicle parking.

In particular, an initiative has been taken to establish a parking space in the Racecourse area on municipal land. This move is essential in streamlining traffic and boosting local commerce. Further, the limited parking availability in areas like Raja Street, Brook Bond Road, and Crosscut Road has prompted the municipal corporation to consider the construction of commercial complexes to expand revenue opportunities and improve urban infrastructure.

The comprehensive development plans underscore Coimbatore’s commitment to improving urban living standards and optimizing city space for business and everyday life.
