In Coimbatore’s Maruthamalai forest area, a female wild elephant with calf found in critical condition receives continuous treatment. Improvements noted with specialized care interventions.

Coimbatore: In the foothills of Maruthamalai, a critical situation unfolded as a female wild elephant, accompanied by her calf, was found lying due to severe health issues on the morning of May 30, 2024. The elephant and her calf were spotted by forest officials who observed her deteriorated condition. Throughout the day, a team consisting of wildlife experts and veterinarians provided treatment to the ailing animal.

Continuing the treatment into the second day, on May 31, 2024, the elephant received glucose, immune boosters, and nutrient-rich foods starting from morning.

Following noticeable improvements in her condition, the forest team used a crane to help the elephant stand, which is a sign of progress in her recovery.
