Sulur Mosque Shops Fined for Illegal Electricity Use

In Sulur, Coimbatore, the Sulur Sunnath Jamath Mosque Association faced enforcement action for using unauthorized electrical connections in newly constructed shops, resulting in a fine of INR 23,032 collected on 23rd February 2024.


Coimbatore: A significant enforcement action has been undertaken against the Sulur Sunnath Jamath Mosque Association for the unauthorized use of electrical connections in their newly constructed commercial shops. The issue came to light following a democratic and lawful complaint process that began on 22nd February 2024 with the Enforcement Department and subsequently to the District Collector on 26th February 2024.

Upon inspection by the concerned enforcement officials, it was confirmed that the Sulur Sunnath Jamath Mosque Association had indeed taken electrical connections in violation of regulations for their commercial establishments. As a result, a penalty of INR 23,032 was imposed and collected on 23rd February 2024. Additionally, the extended electrical wires without permission were removed to rectify the unauthorized setup.

In response to the complaint, Chief Engineer K. Kuppurani, BE of the Coimbatore Electricity Distribution Circle, communicated the action taken to Lotus Manikandan, the leader of the Hindusthan People's Service Movement, who has shared the details of this correspondence on social media, highlighting the swift action taken by the authorities in addressing such violations. This incident underscores the importance of adhering to electrical safety regulations and the local government's commitment to enforcing these rules for public safety and infrastructure integrity.
