The Salem Railway Division has announced the commencement of expansion and renovation works at North Coimbatore Railway Station, including the construction of two additional platforms under the Amrit Bharat Scheme. The initiative is part of a larger project to modernize 554 railway stations and 1,500 railway bridges nationwide.

Coimbatore: The call for the expansion of North Coimbatore Railway Station, situated near Coimbatore Junction, is gaining momentum with plans to construct two additional platforms. As part of the initial phase under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, the Salem Railway Division has allocated Rs. 7.5 crores for North Coimbatore and Rs. 24 crores for the Pothanur Railway Stations for enhancement works.

In a significant nationwide initiative scheduled for the 26th, a grand ceremony to lay the foundation, inaugurate, and dedicate to the nation 554 railway stations and 1,500 railway bridges under the scheme is planned. Prime Minister Modi is expected to kickstart these projects via video conferencing.

Among the listed projects, the renovation work at North Coimbatore Railway Station, which began in August, is included. The Southern Railway has previously announced that the renovation work at this station is expected to be completed by May 31. However, there are doubts regarding the completion within the stipulated timeframe. With the station's inclusion in the projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister, there is renewed hope that the renovation efforts will now gain pace.
