Pollachi Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for POCSO Case

Ponnusamy, 53, convicted for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Pollachi, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison under the POCSO Act.


Coimbatore: In a significant verdict, Ponnusamy, a 53-year-old resident of Pollachi, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2020. The case was filed at the All-Women Police Station in Pollachi and Ponnusamy was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The trial was conducted in the Coimbatore District's special POCSO Court. The court, after thorough examination and concluding the inquiry, delivered the verdict on 09 January 2025, sentencing Ponnusamy to prison.

The successful prosecution of the case was commended by Coimbatore District Police Superintendent Badrinath. He especially lauded the efforts of the investigating officer and the court's head constable, Manjula Devi, for their meticulous investigation and presentation of witnesses.
