Coimbatore: Rotary Coimbatore 3201 recently hosted a felicitation ceremony to honor RTN. J. Swarnalatha, the Founder of Swarga Foundation, for her remarkable achievement in receiving the prestigious Sarvshresth Divyangjan Award. This accolade was presented by President Droupadi Murmu on December 3, 2023, at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

Swarnalatha J, an acclaimed Asia Book of Records Holder and five-time TEDx Speaker, is celebrated for her multifaceted roles as a disability rights activist, singer, photographer, and motivational speaker. In 2018, she was crowned the winner of the India Beauty Pageant (South). A polyglot, she speaks about ten languages and enjoys writing short stories.

She founded Swarga Foundation to support individuals affected by neuromuscular disorders and various disabilities. Her work spans across multiple domains including accessible transport, infrastructure development, rehabilitation, counseling, awareness, and promoting inclusion. Through her foundation, she launched Sarathi, Tamil Nadu’s first taxi service catering to senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The foundation also made significant contributions in making public spaces in Coimbatore, such as the police commissioner’s office, railway station, and several government schools, wheelchair-accessible. Their flagship initiative, the Sowkhya Pain Rehab Clinic, has offered free physiotherapy, Ayurveda, and counseling services to over 20,000 patients. Swarnalatha's efforts have earned her more than 35 awards and recognitions across India, including the Cavin care Ability Award for Eminence, Seiyyal Puyal Award by Aval Vikatan, Dr. Batra's People's Choice Award, and the Changemaker Award by Tata Steel Foundation, among others.

The event, led by District Coordinator RTN. MD S Gokul Raj, saw the participation of regional secretary RTN. Maruthachalam, Assistant Governors, and various other Rotary members. It was attended by all presidents, secretaries, and GRRs, highlighting the Rotary community’s support and admiration for Swarnalatha's inspiring journey and contributions.
