Heavy Rains Soak Coimbatore: 6.1 cm rainfall in Peelamedu

The mixing of rainwater with pollutants from a dyeing factory has raised environmental concerns, highlighting the ongoing issue of industrial waste management in the area.


The Coimbatore region experienced significant rainfall last night, with the district administration reporting varied amounts in different areas. Peelamedu received 6.1 centimeters, the southern part of Coimbatore received 5.6 centimeters, Thondamuthur area 5.9 centimeters, and the Agricultural University area 5.2 centimeters. The heavy rains mixed with industrial effluents, leading to a foam formation in the waterways at the Athupalam lime channel area, noticeable for several meters as locals reported seeing froth floating along the path.





The administration has released rainfall data up until 8 AM today, confirming the downpour measurements in the various locales of Coimbatore. The weather remains cloudy and cool in the morning hours following the rains.
