The new coaches include wider doors and larger windows, providing a better view, more leg room, and better seating facilities. To make travel more pleasant, the suspension design has been modified with roller-bearings.

The facility contains three counters, one for differently-abled people, and a large circular-cum-parking space of 2,500 square metres. Escalators and lifts will be constructed at the Mettupalayam station as part of the Amrit Bharat initiative, which has been allocated 10 crore to improve facilities. The same sum has been allocated to Coonoor and Ooty railway stations for the same purpose. The Railway Ministry has sanctioned a separate 15 crore for track modernization, he said.
