Traffic change at Singanallur junction - Police say congestion is under control

With a view to control the traffic congestion at Singanallur junction, new changes have been made on a trial basis. According to the city police, the traffic congestion is completely under control.

Coimbatore: Traffic congestion at Singanallur junction has been completely brought under control as traffic has been diverted on a trial basis.

The city police are taking various measures to control the traffic congestion in coimbatore city areas. The traffic congestion is being controlled by making temporary roundabouts and "U turn" through barricades in areas such as Avinashi Road, Sungam, Brooksfield Road, Vadakovai, Athupalam, Ukkadam, etc., which are prone to heavy traffic congestion.

While this has been well received by the public, top officials, including the Additional DGP of Law and Order, who visited Coimbatore recently, have also appreciated it. In this situation, there have been demands for the construction of a flyover at Singanallur junction on Trichy road which is a major traffic jam.

Meanwhile, the city police have made new changes on a trial basis to control the traffic congestion. Accordingly, the motorists going to Vellalore from Avinashi Road via Singanallur Junction will have to go to Vellalore on the left side and make a "U turn" and go back to Vellalore on the left.

Similarly, barricades have been set up so that vehicles going towards Avinashi Road can take a "U turn" near Uzhavar santhai and go to Avinashi Road on the left. Moreover, direct vehicles have been allowed to ply on the road without any hindrance.

This has prevented vehicles from having to wait at long signals for more than 15 minutes. If the project, which has been implemented as a pilot project, will completely reduce the traffic congestion, the city police are taking steps to set up a permanent roundabout or barricades.
