Lorry collides with tanker near Walayar; Public panic as carbon dioxide in tanker gets released

After the lorry collided with a tanker near Walayar on the Coimbatore-Kerala border, there was commotion amidst the public since carbon dioxide in the tanker was released. The Walayar police are investigating the accident.



Coimbatore: A lorry collided with a tanker near Walayar on the Coimbatore-Kerala border.

The tanker was carrying carbon dioxide from a private company in Ernakulam, Kerala, to a soda-making company in Coimbatore. Another lorry carrying a load of vegetables to Coimbatore collided with the rear of the tanker near Valaiyar Vattapara on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.

There was a breach in the valve of the tanker truck and the carbon-dioxide inside was released with a loud noise. This created a stir among public who panicked. On receiving the information, the Walayar police immediately stopped traffic on the Palakkad-Coimbatore highway.



The Kanjikode fire brigade later reached the spot and immediately ensured that the release of carbon dioxide was prevented further. After struggling for about two hours, the fire brigade repaired the broken valve in the tanker truck.

Tension prevailed on the Coimbatore-Palakkad National Highway due to the release of the carbon-dioxide from the tanker with a loud noise. The Walayar police are investigating the accident.
