Additional Chief Secretary, Water Supply Department spot checks Coimbatore's drinking water quality

Shiv Das Meena, Additional Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, inspected the quality of drinking water while inspecting the different works being carried out in various zones of the Coimbatore Corporation.



Coimbatore: Shiv Das Meena, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Municipal Administration, and Water Supply Department, examined Coimbatore Corporation's ongoing projects in several zones.



Shiv Das Meena, additional chief secretary of municipal administration and water supply department, personally visited the temple and inspected the quality of drinking water supplied to households. Distribution pipes have been laid to offer drinking water to families under the 24-hour water supply programme in Sanganoor Narayanaswamy Nagar, ward no.32 of Coimbatore Corporation Central Zone.



Following that, the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Municipal Administration, and Water Supply Department examined the Micro Composting Centre at Sanganoor, Central Zone Ward No. 32.

He personally visited the site where the cremation and burial grounds were functioning and explained how biodegradable and non-biodegradable garbage is separated. He listened to the sanitation employees' grievances after inquiring about basic amenities such as toilets, drinking water, and other essentials.



Later, he personally examined the construction of the overhead water storage tank under the 24-hour water supply network being built at the Lawley Road junction in the Western Zone.

Following that, he directed that the job be done quickly and qualitatively and put to use. He also doubled the number of employees currently working on the 24-hour water supply project and directed them to complete the project on schedule and with due planning.

He additionally urged the highways department, the corporation, and other departments to make preparations for acquiring the necessary clearances to carry out projects.

He also urged the corporation administration to provide the required facilities for the timely completion of the 24x7 water supply projects. He also directed the engineers to send the quality of the overhead water tank's building work to the laboratory for inspection.



Additionally, inspected the construction of a library and knowledge centre on Addis Road, Ward No. 83, Central Zone, under the Smart City Plan.

Following that, he directed the concerned officer to execute the works in a timely and high-quality manner, and to put them to use as soon as possible.



A library and knowledge centre building with state-of-the-art amenities is being constructed at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore at the Corporation site on Addis Road under ward no.83, Central Zone, Coimbatore Corporation at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore.

This moderm library and information centre has been equipped with training facilities to help school and college students face and succeed in state and national level competitive examinations.

The centre features a library, an office, restrooms, 10,000 books, and shelves for 80 people to sit down and study. He inquired about the availability of facilities such as a training room, a parking lot, a mother's lactation room, a performance room for boys and girls, a reading room for newspapers, and newspapers to train 42 people.



Later he personally inspected the ongoing Kurichi, Kuniyamuthur Underground Sewerage Scheme Part-I and II works in Coimbatore Corporation South Zone, Kovaipudur, which is estimated to cost Rs.591.14 crore.

He also directed the concerned official to complete the work in a timely and high-quality manner by June 30, 2023, and to put it to use as soon as possible. He directed the officials to complete the remaining waste water construction as soon as possible.

He instructed that the houses should be provided properly at the places where the works have been completed and the work should be done by marking them properly.



Following that, he instructed that the sewage treatment facility being constructed in Muthunagar's Ward No.100 be completed in a quality and expeditious manner, and that saplings be planted and maintained in the premises area.
