Coimbatore: Farmers in Kinathukada were in distress as 15,000 banana trees were damaged due to heavy rains accompanied by cyclonic winds on Thursday.

The area around Kinathukadavu received heavy rains accompanied by cyclonic winds on Thursday night.

Due to this, 15,000 banana trees cultivated in Pottayandipurambu, Kallapuram and Singaiyanpudur areas near Kinathukadavu were completely damaged.

Despite the scarcity of water, the banana trees, which were cultivated and maintained through drip irrigation, have been uprooted by the wind for an hour.

In this situation, it is very sad that banana trees have been damaged by the time the banana saplings are harvested in two months. The farmers have also demanded that the agriculture department officials should conduct a proper survey and pay compensation.
