Four others, including Kavitha and a lady lawyer, who were injured in the acid attack are presently undergoing treatment at a Government Hospital in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Shiva who hails from Ramanathapuram in Coimbatore had been married to Kavitha (35), and the couple had two children. Kavitha has since separated from Shiva and is living with another man.

Kavitha who had arrived at the Court premises was sitting in the waiting room in the Court premises awaiting the witnesses for the case when suddenly, Kavitha's first husband, Shiva, took out a hidden water bottle but which had acid in it, and threw it on Kavitha.

Kavitha suffered serious injuries on her face and body. Four others, who were also at the Court for the hearing of another case were also injured in the acid attack. Kavitha was rushed to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment while the others injured were also shifted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital.

Following this, Indu, a woman constable from Pollachi's Anaimalai area who was at the Court premises for investigation, chased Shiva along with a few other policemen and caught hold of him.

Shiva was then brought to the Magistrate's Court. Fellow lawyers gathered at the Court premises attacked Shiva for throwing acid on Kavitha.

He was later rescued by the police and taken into custody.

Coimbatore City North Deputy Commissioner Sandeesh, who rushed to the spot on receiving information, conducted an inquiry. He also enquired about Kavitha who was undergoing treatment at a Government Hospital in Coimbatore. Preliminary investigations revealed that Kavitha, who had separated from Shiva and her children was living with someone else, and hence Shiva threw acid in a fit of rage.
