Captured Makhna elephant roams in truck for 24 hours as people from Pollachi-Annamalai forest area deny entry to areas near them

For the past 24 hours, the forest department has been roaming around with the Makhna elephant, which was captured in Coimbatore, in a truck. When the elephant was finally taken to the Mandhirimattam forest area, there was a commotion as journalists were denied permission to go to the forest area.

Coimbatore: The Makhna elephant, which had left the forest area in Dharmapuri district and was threatening the people by damaging farmlands, was caught with tranquilliser injection on February 5th, 2023. It was taken to the Top Slip near Pollachi and was released in the Varakaliyar forest area on the 6th and was being monitored by the forest department.

The Makhna elephant, had left the Topslip forest three days ago, and had entered the areas of Sethumadai, Aathu Pollachi, Ramapattinam and Jalathur.

The elephant migrated towards Coimbatore and crossed Madukkarai to Perur.

The forest department had planned to catch the elephant with a tranquilliser injection yesterday and the forest department caught the elephant by administering the injection to the elephant yesterday.

In this case, when the forest department planned to take the elephant to Sathyamangalam forest, they took it in a truck. The forest department planned to take the elephant back to the Pollachi-Anaimalai Tiger Reserve in the wake of protests by the farmers in the area and they brought it back to Pollachi in a truck.

The forest department had planned to release the elephant at Manthirimattam, a dense forest area in the Valparai-Manampalli forest range. The elephant was taken to the forest beyond the Manampally forest check post.

The elephant caught in Coimbatore yesterday has been captured for over 24 hours.

The Makhna elephant, tired of continuing to travel in the truck, was found unconscious when it approached the Manampalli check post.
