One dies and another injured as two sand laden Dipper lorries collide head-on near Udumalpet

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision between two Dipper trucks carrying sand for the ongoing highway work near Manupatti near Udumalpet.



Tirupur: In a tragic accident, one person was killed when two Dipper trucks collided head-on near Udumalpet in Tirupur district. One more person sustained injuries.

Work on the Coimbatore-Dindigul National Highway near Manupatti on the Udumalpet-Munnar route is in progress.



The soil is being transported in Dipper trucks from the forest area for this purpose. The soil is being transported day and night by engaging more than 50 tipper trucks.

So far, more than 10 accidents have reportedly taken place in the area due to heavy vehicles carrying sand in this accident-prone stretch over the years.



It is said that the accidents are caused due to drunken driving under the influence of alcohol at night by Dipper drivers and lack of adequate indicator lights in the vehicles.

The public has appealed to the District administration to take necessary steps at the earliest to prevent such frequent accidents.
