College student and a school girl found dead hit by passing train in mysterious circumstances near Podanur

Podanur police have recovered the body of a college student and a schoolgirl and are investigating whether were killed after being hit by a train or died by suicide.


Coimbatore: Police are investigating the death of a college student and a schoolgirl who died after being run over by a train near Sulur.

Selvaraj hails from Annamadai near Sulur. His son Ajay (19) was studying B.Com at a private college in Coimbatore.

His friend Rajkumar had asked him to accompany him to Rasipalayam with him today. Following this, the two went on a two-wheeler towards Rasipalayam.

However, when they reached Rasipalayam railway gate, Ajay asked him to stop the bike and got down. He said he had to meet someone and crossed the track.

Since Ajay did not turn up even after two or three trains had passed by, his friend Rajkumar grew suspicious and later overheard screams of Ajay and a girl, who were hit by the train and were found dead.

Following this, the police were informed, who rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the two and sent them for postmortem

During the investigation, it was found that the deceased girl was a school student from Rasipalayam.

According to the deceased girl’s relatives, “ she had left her home to study at a friend’s place last evening, but never returned”.



Podanur police and Railway police have registered a case and are investigating whether the two committed suicide or died after being hit by a train while sitting on the railway track.

The death of a college student and a schoolgirl after being hit by a train has created a lot of grief in the area.
