Councillors cutting across party lines object to setting up a new quarry near Ethappannagar in Karamadai Municipality

Cutting across party lines BJP, DMK and AIADMK councillors protested at the municipal meeting that no permission should be given to set up a new stone quarry Ethappannagar area in Karamadai municipality.


Coimbatore: The monthly meeting of Karamadai Municipality near Mettupalayam was held presided over by Chairman Usha Venkatesh at the municipal meeting hall.

A total of 27 ward councillors participated in the meeting and 21 resolutions were placed before the house and passed.

In the meanwhile, BJP, AIADMK and DMK councillors raised objections to the public hearing for a stone quarry, which was held in Marudur village instead of Karamadai municipality limits.

Objecting to the proposal to set up a new stone quarry at Ethappannagar area, where there is a large number of resident population, they said dynamites when used in the proposed quarry might affect the public to a great extent.



The councillors, who maintained that no permission should be granted by the municipality to set up the disputed stone quarry in the interest of the general public.



When the Municipal chairman and Commissioner did not give an assurance to their demand, the councillors threated to stage an agitation if permission is given to set up the quarry.
