Lone tusker rampages fields in human settlements in Coimbatore

A lone wild elephant entered farmers' estates in the Thaliyur area near Pannimadai in Coimbatore and rampaged banana trees.


Coimbatore: Anaikatti Mangarai hills of Coimbatore is home to over 50 wild elephants which sometimes stray into residential areas and fields at the foot of the hill in search of food, and damage crops.

For the past three months, lone elephants have been spotted regularly in the Thadagam area and entered fields in the surrounding areas, damaging crops.



A lone wild elephant entered the fields of Velusamy and Rangaraj at Thaliyur near Pannimadai in Coimbatore on Sunday night and rampaged the banana crop, uprooting trees and eating them.

Shocked farmers have requested the Forest Department to find a permanent solution to prevent elephants from entering fields.
