DMK MP A Raja console kin of deceased women drowned in jungle river, hand over solatium of Rs.4 lakhs each

DMK MP A Raja and State Tourism Minister K Ramachandran consoled the families of the four women who lost their lives in the flash floods while returning from a temple near the Nilgiris. Raja also donated Rs 1 lakh each on his behalf.



The Nilgiris: In a tragic incident, four women drowned in a jungle river, when they were returning from a temple at Anikal near Ooty in the Nilgiris district. The Tamil Nadu government had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the four deceased.



Nilgiris MP A Raja and Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister K Ramachandran met the families of the four deceased and consoled them.

Following this, a cheque of Rs.4 lakh each from the State Disaster Management Relief Fund was handed over to the family by. Nilgiris MP A Raja, who also donated Rs.1 lakh to the families of the deceased on his behalf.

Speaking to reporters, Raja said, Saroja (65), Vasuki (45), Vimala (35) and Susheela (50), who were trying to cross a jungle stream while returning from a temple near Ooty in the Nilgiris district, were washed away by the flood and later their bodies were recovered.

On the orders of the Chief Minister, an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each was given to the families of the deceased.

Nilgiris District Collector Amrith, former Government Whip P.M. Mubarak, Ooty Revenue Divisional Officer Duraisamy, Ooty Tahsildar Rajasekhar, Block Development Officers Vijaya and Nandakumar and other government officials were present on the occasion.
