Flood-like rainwater stagnated in Kurudampalayam Thudiyalur; work begins

The public made a request to the district collector due to the waterlogging in Thudiyalur in Kurudampalayam panchayat of Coimbatore. As a result, desilting of the drain to the extent of about one kilometre was carried out.

Coimbatore: The northeast monsoon has intensified across Tamil Nadu and it has been raining heavily. The water bodies are filling up fast due to heavy rains. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains will continue across Tamil Nadu till May 16.

In this situation, heavy rains continued to lash Coimbatore district from yesterday evening till early this morning.

Due to this, rainwater overflowed in major parts of the city. All the eight lakes in Coimbatore city were filled up.

Due to this, the surplus water will reach Sengulam via Noyyal river and from there the check dam will be released from where the water flows to Kurichi tank through Raja Channel.

In this situation, several places on both sides of mettupalayam national highway from Thudiyalur police station under Kurudampalayam panchayat in Coimbatore to NGGO Colony gate are flooded at several places.

The desilting of bridges near Thudiyalur police station and near Kurudampalayam old panchayat has also resulted in the dumping of building waste.

The mettupalayam road in Coimbatore was flooded with rain and the entire road was damaged due to which the roads were waterlogged. Motorists faced a lot of difficulty and were further affected by the rain in a nearby apartment.

Based on a request made by the public to the District Collector in this regard, the National Highways Department today carried out the desilting work of desilting the drain to the extent of about one kilometre on one side of the road.

The assistant executive engineer of national highways said that the desilting work will continue.
