District collector flags off measles and rubella vaccination campaign.


This morning, the vaccination campaign for Measles and Rubella was inaugurated by District Collector T.N.Hariharan along with Gandhimadhi Deputy Commissioner Coimbatore Corporation. This campaign will continue till 28th of February in all anganwadis, government and government aided schools across the city. This vaccination drive is organized by Directorate of Public Health and Lions Club International Dist 324 B1 and Dist.324 B5.



District Collector T.N.Hariharan while speaking to media said “It is first time that the Measles and Rubella vaccination campaign is simultaneously happening in India as well as Tamil Nadu. It will be benefiting kids from the age of 9 months to 15 years. There are a number of fake messages about this vaccination camp that are doing the rounds in the various media. I advise parents not to believe such messages and I also request the parents to take advantage of this vaccination drive by getting their children vaccinated against these diseases.



Dr.P.G Banumathi Deputy Director Health Services, Coimbatore elaborated that the teachers in the school have been educated and trained about the importance of vaccination. They will organize outreach session for parents and encourage them to get the kids vaccinated. All the school going kids can get vaccinated from the school and non school going kids will be vaccinated at the primary health care centers in the city.



This campaign will cover nearly 7,51,431 students across Coimbatore studying in Anganwadi, Government School and Government Aided Schools. In Anganwadi centres 958 kids from 9 months to 5 years will be vaccinated and 1996 students from 6 years to 15 years will be vaccinated in government and government aided school. This campaign will involve nearly 400 Health Care staffs. The India Academy of Paediatricians Coimbatore Chapter and Indian Medical Association have also joined hands for this campaign.



The inaugural event had presence of  MJF. Lion G. Suresh Kumar, Past District Governor, MJF. Lion. Na. Manoharan who are the MR Campaign Coordinators. PMJF Lion. K. Dhanapal International Director and Chairman  National MR Campaign Committee was also present. PMJF Lion G. Ramasamy PID and International Third Vice President endorsee released the MR Lions Advertisement CD.
