Coimbatore: The Shia sect of Muslims of Podanur here observed Muharam by beating themselves and offering supplication to the almighty.
Muharam, which is the first month of the Islamic calendar and the second holy month after Ramadan is observed all over the world by Muslims. The tenth day of the Muharam month is observed as martyrdom day of Imam Hussain.
