Muharam: Shia Muslims in Coimbatore mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain

Shia Muslims of all age group sang mournful songs in Arabic and offered prayers on the day. Then, men mostly youngsters bet themselves and spilled blood by way of commemorating Imam Hussain.



Coimbatore: The Shia sect of Muslims of Podanur here observed Muharam by beating themselves and offering supplication to the almighty.



Muharam, which is the first month of the Islamic calendar and the second holy month after Ramadan is observed all over the world by Muslims. The tenth day of the Muharam month is observed as martyrdom day of Imam Hussain.
