Home Remedies To Manage Asthma Attack

Asthma is a condition that can cause narrowing of the airways and production of excess mucus. This will make breathing difficult and will also be associated with many other health issues.

The common trigger for asthma attack is a few allergens. This can vary from person to person. If left untreated, it can even be life-threatening.

Unfortunately, asthma cannot be cured. But definitely, there are some remedies out there to manage the situation. Medications for asthma can be long term or short term, depending on the severity of the disease.

But, in general cases, you can control the symptoms by trying some home remedies for asthma. Most of these focus on avoiding the triggering factors or decreasing the effect of the triggers on our body.

If you have asthma, you have to be very careful about many things, ranging from your food habits to the asthma triggers in your work place.

Along with modifying your whole lifestyle to an asthma-friendly style, you can try some effective home remedies for asthma.

Curing asthma completely is not possible. But, by trying these home remedies, you can make your life easier in the battle with asthma.

Ginger: Ginger is the most commonly used home remedy for asthma. Mix one teaspoon of ground ginger in one and a half cups of water. Take this before sleeping. It will also boost the muscle relaxant effects of certain asthma drugs.

Mustard Oil: Massaging with mustard oil is one of the best grandma's techniques, which is a perfect home remedy to treat asthma. This type of massage will clear the respiratory passages and will help ease your breathing.

Steaming: Steaming is probably the most widely used one among the home remedies for asthma. Steam will help in breaking down the mucus, thereby clearing the air passages. You can also add two drops of eucalyptus oil to get a more effective result.

Figs: Draining phlegm and alleviating breathing difficulties are the key points in managing asthma. Figs can do this effectively. Soak three dried figs in a cup of water overnight. Drink this next morning on an empty stomach. This is a long-term treatment that should last for a minimum of three months.

Pomegranate: Mix ginger juice, pomegranate juice and honey in equal quantities. Consume one tablespoon of this mixture daily for three times. This will help to manage the airway inflammation and inhibit airway constriction.

Garlic: If you are in the early stages of asthma, garlic is a good option to try. This will relieve the congestion in your lungs and will clear the air passages. Boil three cloves in one-quarter cup of milk. Drink this before sleeping.

Fenugreek: Fenugreek has an excellent property in cleansing your lungs. Boil one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water. You can add one tsp each of ginger juice and honey to this. Drink this two times a day.
Coffee A good news for coffee lovers! Taking hot coffee will help to clear the air ways and this will help to make your breathing process easier. The bronchodilator property of coffee is the major contributor here. But, do not use caffeine in larger quantities.

Camphor: Camphor is also extensively used for the management of asthma. You can use some mustard oil also for this purpose. Heat some mustard oil with camphor and gently massage this on the chest and upper back areas.

Eucalyptus Oil: The excellent decongestant properties of eucalyptus oil make it to the top in the list of home remedies for asthma. The ingredient, eucalyptol, is effective in removing mucus. Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a cotton ball and smell this directly or keep it near your head while sleeping.
