The number of corona virus cases in Coimbatore district has been on the rise for the past one month. The number of daily cases has crossed 70. The number of people undergoing treatment in the district has crossed 400.
The coronavirus infection easily affects pregnant women, those with co-morbidities and the elderly. Health department officials said that pregnant women are being continuously monitored by village nurses.
Aruna, deputy director of health department, said:
There are more than 12,000 pregnant women in Coimbatore district. All of them are being constantly monitored by village health nurses. Due to the increasing number of corona cases, more attention is being paid now. Pregnant women have been advised to inform the village nurses immediately even if they have mild fever and cold.
Arrangements have been made to conduct tests at primary health centres and provide appropriate treatment to pregnant women who have such mild symptoms. So far, pregnant women have not been affected in a big way. However, it has been advised to be very careful as there is a possibility of getting infected easily. This is what she said.
