Colouring everyday has a beautiful impact on your brain and here's why you should take it up

For so many of us the idea of relaxing is to come home after office and simply place ourselves in front of the TV. But how passive of us, right? So how about something new?

It's now been clinically proven that colouring is a stress-free activity that helps to calm the fear centre of the brain, the amygdala, and allows your mind to get the rest it needs. Hopefully, the following reasons will convince you to pick up some crayons and get to work, so you can find the pleasure in being connected to yourself.

Colouring reduces stress and anxiety

Colouring scientifically gives your mind periodic rest and helps to reduce stress overall. It is a meditative, free-time activity and you can schedule and train your mind to respond less harshly to stress.
It trains your brain to focus

To live in the present moment can actually be difficult. Colouring actually trains you to put your day-to-day problems and struggles aside at least for the hour you spend doing it. It even helps you to focus.

It helps replace negative thoughts

Colouring helps you to bring the inner child in you to the surface. Also, according to Dr. Joel Pearson, a brain scientist at the University of New South Wales in Australia, “Concentrating on colouring an image may facilitate the replacement of negative thoughts and images with pleasant one”.

It can reduce levels of cortisol

Well, we all know how most therapists recommend colouring as an activity to people who have anxiety issues. But anxiety is also linked to the levels of cortisol in our body. When we are stressed, the levels of cortisol are released from the activation of the adrenal cortex in our brains which can lead to the suppression of the immune system.

It increases coordination and analytical skills

Scientists have proved in the past that colouring can activate the analytical hemisphere of the brain. When we use different colours, we become more creative. Colouring frequently helps our brain to improve on coordination.
