The 69-year-old man who arrived at the Chennai airport from the UK on the 20th of this month has been detected with Omicron. He was been admitted to Coimbatore ESI Hospital for treatment.
Coimbatore: A 69-year-old elderly man from Coimbatore has been admitted to the ESI hospital for treatment after being diagnosed with Omicron infection.
As of Friday, Tamil Nadu has recorded 118 Omicron cases, while Coimbatore has recorded its first case, today. According to reports from health department, a 69-year-old elderly man who arrived at the Chennai airport from the UK on the December 20 was confirmed to have infected with Covid-19.
While his swab samples were sent to the Chennai laboratory to examine the nature of the variant, the elderly man was sent back to Coimbatore and was advised to self quarantine at his home. Meanwhile, the health department today confirmed that the elderly man has been infected with the highly contagious Omicron variant.
Following which, the elderly man was admitted to ESI Hospital, today for further treatment at an isolated ward. As he has been vaccinated completely, he has reported mild sore throat and is stable, said sources.
The health department staff have collected swabs from his family to ascertain if they are also infected with Omicron. The first case of Omicron in Coimbatore has triggered panic among the people.
