Pollachi: Parents stormed into a school in Pollachi after the school continued to be functional even after one of its students tested positive and several others were detected with fever.

Some parents charged into the Government Girls High School in Pollachi on Netaji Road, on Tuesday since the school had not declared a holiday despite one of its students testing positive for Covid-19. Among the 500 students in school, one student tested positive. Several others were diagnosed with fever after the tests. Subsequently, Class 12 students alone were granted a holiday.
Parents alleged that many girls continued to have flu-like symptoms but the teachers were negligent in ensuring that the school was disinfected, and had also not given proper information about the infection to the parents.

They added that they feared sending their children to school and urged school authorities to resume classes after disinfecting the premises.

The District Education Officer assured that the parents' demands would be fulfilled, after which the parents called off the agitation and dispersed. The Headmistress of the school, Gomathi, who suddenly fainted during the parents' protest was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
