Coimbatore: At a vaccination drive that was recently held in Kavundampalayam, in Coimbatore, as many as 260 individuals above the age of 18 from the marginalized section of society were inoculated with the Covishield vaccine.

This drive, an initiative of Coimbatore COVID Aid and COODU was organised with the support of the District Administration through the Department of Health Services and Family Welfare, and Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, Coimbatore.

City-based private hospital KGM Hospitals provided on-site medical support through nurses and a doctor for the day-long camp.
The vaccination drive was organised in the backdrop of the anticipated third wave of Coronavirus. Speaking to SimpliCity about the camp, Kathiresan, Founder of COODU said, “In order to reduce the ferocity of the third wave, we are identifying and targeting communities that have limited access to vaccines and accelerate the process of India’s vaccination efforts.â€

The beneficiaries were pre-registered with their Aadhaar card and pre-screened for underlying health issues before immunization. “Normally pre-screening of medical conditions of the beneficiaries is neglected. However, the beneficiaries who were vaccinated at our camp were checked for these medical conditions and were given an information slip equipping them with post-vaccination care information and medication,†said Tavissi Jain, Founder of Coimbatore COVID Aid (CCA). Each beneficiary’s sugar levels and BP levels were also checked.

Post vaccination, the beneficiaries received a care kit containing surgical masks, paracetamol tablets, a pack of biscuits and an information flyer about the do’s and don’ts that they need to follow after getting the vaccine.
Coimbatore Covid Aid had donated oxygen cylinders, regulators and flow meters to the Government Hospitals in Tirupur during the peak of the second wave.
