Treatment centers in Coimbatore will not be closed immediately even if Covid-19 cases decline
Coimbatore: The Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore are currently declining. Thus more than 60 percent of treatment centers have empty beds.
Of the total 4,597 oxygen beds in the district, 2,630 beds are vacant. Of the 2,808 normal beds, 2,188 beds and 350 of the 852 emergency beds are vacant. Similarly there are a total of 5,228 beds in coronavirus treatment centers across the district. Of these, 4,068 beds are vacant, with 1,160 currently receiving treatment.
A district official said, "More than 70 per cent of coronavirus treatment centers have empty beds due to the declining coronavirus impact in Coimbatore district. However, the health department said there was a possibility of a third wave of coronavirus. Hence none of the coronavirus treatment centers currently established in the district will be closed. The district administration is ready in all respects to face the third wave."
